I like what you've done! Board-mounted 9mm pots, ribbon cable + sockets for your switches

Any problems with transistor biasing?

Thankyou, Sir.
It biases up just fine, on both boards there are pairs of resistors to aproximate a value I didn't have on hand, so they're not even completly 'stock' values. I bread boarded both curcuits and auditioned all kinds of transistors to find ones I liked. I think the OKF must be a fairly forgiving curcuit.

nope, just wired it in to see how it would work.....it maybe tames a little of that SHO sparkle

the cool thing is that when its velcro'd down to the board you can roll the knob on the side (sag) to increase or decrease the amount of boost......and that knob doesn't crackle while you are turning it

So is it basically a V+ bias to the FET?

Taylor

This is my first attempt at a 1590A. It's a complete 20 watt amplifier (clean preamp and power amp) in a 1590A. This is a prototype for the amp project I'm putting together. Guts aren't as pretty as they could be, being a proto, and because I used mostly salvaged hardware. But hey, whaddaya want, it's a 20 watt amp in a 1590a. Details here.

fatfoohy

@taylor, i cant wait to try out your amp! i thought i'd share this with this thread, a variable midscoop, with a battery, in a 1590a and mass produced, im impressed http://ews-us.com/item_bassmid.php
having leftover parts is just proof that you made it better!!!!

i must be sick in the head...i actually dreamed about a cream coloured 1590a box last night...

it must be a sign of having to build my first one...or a sign that i'm ******....

Hi
Finally found time to build the MXR phase 90. I discovered and corrected a trace error at IC3 so now the layout is corrected and verified. I'm not going to box this build since I did not have any 2N5457 in stock and used 4 not that well matched 2N5485. It does not sound as good and swoooshy as my Tonepad build with matched 2N5457 and I had to jumper around the trace error. But this is what it look like "inside".

And here is the parts layout and PCB transfer

Silly question dudes, but will it fit the 27969PSLA box? It's ALMOST (that's why I'm asking) the same size as 1590a.

blooze_man

I wouldn't try to fit it into anything smaller than a 1590a.
Big Muff, Trotsky Drive, Little Angel, Valvecaster, Whisker Biscuit, Smash Drive, Green Ringer, Fuzz Face, Rangemaster, LPB1, Bazz Fuss/Buzz Box, Radioshack Fuzz, Blue Box, Fuzzrite, Tonepad Wah, EH Pulsar, NPN Tonebender, Torn's Peaker...

Nice clean build!

Do you have any stompbox porn (gutshot) for us as well?

I have yet to try those knobs, but I should order a bunch so I can put the Dunlop rubber sleeve on them for foot control. You can change the boost in the middle of a song, i.e. when you have the pedal off for a chorus or something, you can crank it to 11 for your solo  ;D

Crowella

Thanks.

Here is the gut shot... Not too neat I must say and I just hacked the switch out of my first failed build but it works, I guess.  :D

I bought the rubber sleeve for a Phaser build recently. I actually decided against them. They fit only on the bigger version of the MXR knobs and I just don't know, wasn't too happy with how it looked.
