PD-- is that black rat lazer etch on paint or powdercoat?  Your details on the gut shots amazes me everytime.  MC
I used to really be with it!  That is, until they changed what "it" is.  Now, I can't find it.  And, I'm scared!  --  Homer Simpson's dad

This is another one of those threads I've stalked forever (I've become a HUGE Pickdropper fan) and never contributed to, but I have my first batch of 1590A's in the mail, so I hope to get in here soon  ;D

It is etched on powdercoat.  I no longer etch on painted boxes.  The reason is that there is a residue from the etching and it really looks a lot better if it is cleaned.  I get the best results with solvents like flux remover and paint doesn't stand up well to it.

Thanks a lot.  I really appreciate that.

I'm looking forward to seeing your 1590a builds.  Warning: it's addictive.

Thanks-- and great work as always PD.  I have a design in my head which is going to be powdercoat with lazer etch.  I found a guy near Cocoa Beach that says he can do it, and the price isn't much more than silkscreening (assuming I do 10 or 20 at a time).  I've been wanting to try it-- it sure is purty!  Someday I will get around to it.  Right now I am too busy with about 4 projects going and a heap of misfit toys to repair..... (botched builds).

posted at the other site too, but ..
thought it time for an update since I just added a tuner to the board. picked up the polytune noir for a fair price so had to attach that to the board. I kicked off the tremolo cos it just doesn't get any use when I gig.
I've also since added a clock into the thing cos I never wear a watch and never know when we stop.start sets..

right to left it's:
pico eq (mad prof eq) ->zen drive ->bsiabII ->dr bogey ->puddleduck delay (mad prof deep blue) ->ross phaser ->zombie chorus
total chain is driven by the baja black toast buffer

the polytune has REALLY short screws so I couldn't use chain links to anchor it so I had to get my thinking cap on.. I figured I'd use cable clamp down thingies
(these -> )
they also didn't lemme screw in (due to countersinking on the base) but I managed to squeeze them between the back plate and the main body of the tuner.. whew! they're not as tight as being screwed down by the chain links but it wont fly away... will prolly tidy the leads up a lil but since the tuner in is the main switch (top right) then I have no need to jump on the polytune to engage so the cable where it is doesn't bother me too much.

Rocklander, nice board! Really like the bicycle chain link idea, and the clock!
The overdrive looks like it has its own flange for mounting...Didn't know they made 1590As like that.
I can't believe you squeezed 6 pots into a 1590A on the Dr Boogey...
Is the footswitch in the upper right of the board the buffer?

rocklander

heh, thanks.. yeah the dr boogey had to have some smd trim pots, but all the rest is thru hole.... similarly the phaser has SMD lm137000...
the switch top right simply directs signal through baja buffer then signal chain, or routes to the tuner so it's also a kill switch.. bi-colour red (mute/tuner)/green(signal path) LED to indicate.

This 1590a board of rocklander's is great. I am working towards something like that, too. Here's the candidate for overdrive chairman:

My brand-new, old looking AEFEA Drive from a schematic conjured up by Sir Mark Hammer. I cannot show you the guts because they are even more untidy than my workbench and I am ashamed of both of them, BUT you might just build your own. The layout (improved in many ways compared to the one used here, ergo tidy) is posted here:

I had high expectations for the AEFEA and built two, only to find it wasn't what I was looking for :icon_rolleyes: Killer finishing job though.

That's a really nice board, Rocklander.

I'm a big fan of 1590a pedal boards.  I have 4 pedalboards (including a very large Pedaltrain Pro) and rarely take anything with me other than the nano board.

This is one version of mine:

I have enough different pedals to make 3 different nano boards, so the configuration is constantly changing.

Probably the best 1590a etch i've ever seen

Thanks a million man  :icon_redface: :icon_redface:!!!!

So flattering comment...!!!!

Some of the best ideas to make my pedals have been taken from this forum, so in fact this pedal belongs in part to here  ;)!!

Rock on!!

pravudh

Hi, I alway built with 125B this is my first time with 1590A.

Hey pravudh, these are beautiful. They remind me of those paisley shirts we used to wear whilst dancing our legs down to the knees. How do you manage to identify the right ones on stage? I started to colour-code my enclosures; because – the big disadvantage with etched boxes – in the half-light they all look the same.  Has anybody an idea where to get small knobs like these in different coulours? Here in Germany it's impossible to source others than the black ones.

Here is a new (already used-looking) pedal for my planned 1590a board. It's a Boss SG-1 Slow Gear. I must admit, I used SMD for the capacitors, so I cheated. If you'd like to see the layout anyways (not brilliant, but functional) just say the word.

Best, Lars

Liquitone

That is pretty clever with the color-code lars! The best idea's are often the simplest huh? It makes your builds recognizable and I can imagine it's handy on the pedal-board, knowing which color is which effect, like boss pedals have. Like when I used to play with Lego's and always searched for the color first, then the shape. It looks pretty good as well.

deadastronaut

you could always have an led on all the time in each pedal in diifferent colours..(a kind of standby light)

red, yellow green, blue, purple, orange, white, pink...and ...erm....er....erm....i'll get my coat.. :)

@ pravudh - those boxes look like they've been chased. v. nice.

@ lars - those knobs come in a shirt-load of colours at tayda. (they come with free, white stress marks in the plastic, too.)

Small Bear has the colored knobs too I am pretty sure.
