You can always go to cordwood construction:

with a puzzle circuit shown here:

Two-lead components are stretched across two separate boards with transistors on one board.  If you have to replace something, tough bananas - that's what you get for using tight packaging.

... Mr. pick-squeeze-a-twenty-four-channel-mixer-into-a-1590a-dropper.   ;)

Catchy nickname.  8)

Uh huh.

                                                    ;D

Yeah, but does it have automated faders?

He broke the circuit down into two stacked cards so it could all fit.

Been there, done that  :P

Perrow that's very cool work.  You guys amaze me with your addiction/dedication to squeeze the components in those tiny boxes. Excellent job.

I thought I had seen all the circuit construction techniques. That looks like a pain to layout. I think I would rather use a double sided smd board.

Did ya have to bring that up again?   ;)   Gotta be the coolest amp on the planet.   :icon_cool: :icon_cool: :icon_cool:

Wired up this Fuzz Face last night. Still working on graphics...

Here's the layout if anyone is interested:

My first thought was... Why is there a shrimp in the circuit??? Now that's a truly unique circuit design.

That layer cake thingy is just cool, I have to find a way to visualize the design process of a curcuit like that.

Cordwood construction was not that unique.  It was quite popular for avionics and missiles in the 1950's and early 1960's and was the most compact process available in the era before SMD.  Obviously circuit boards had to be planned so the position of the components could be matched.  Repair was usually done by tossing the assembly and installing a new one unless whatever had died was near the edge and readily replaceable.  You can see jumper wires connecting upper and lower board traces.  Maybe a 1590A with two PT2399's with leads flattened out would be possible using this construction.

Sorry guys. Just a single pt2399 board. It's Anchovies Noise Ensemble:

that noise ensemble looks very nice and clean! That's a top build!
my new pedal had some etching issues, the board layout is from the little angel chorus, bday edition, rev 4:

Who said, you cannot put a battery, a power supply jack, three switchcraft jacks, a footswitch and a LED in a 1590a? My take on an A-B-Switch. It takes some Milling, though...
