Hi sixstringphil, I put the lables on my  knobs by using rub on transfer lettering and then a light clear coat to protect them.

foxfire

here is my first attempt. i like it but of course i like the back more than the front. anyway i tried spraying this my not so climate controlled shop during a week of rain. so after 1 1/2 cans of clean coat i still couldn't get rid of all the little bubbles and what not. live and learn.

I'm going to do this on a huge enclosure from Mouser for my ADA flanger. Would those little 2 ounce bottles be enough? btw the enclosure is part #537-MDC862-01

Very nice. How does the satin look up close? I've got a can that I haven't used yet.
Also, do you mind sharing your source for those knobs?

I'm not sure.

I actually sprayed a bunch of coats of clear gloss and then sanded it to satin ! :)

The knobs were just sitting in my drawer...BUT...you can get them from any Fender dealer...theyre amp knobs (Vibroking, tremolux, etc use them)

That's my favorite one so far Andy! The others are great but I dig the earth tones.
I love those knobs as well. No swirl but here's one of mine with brown "cupcake" knobs.

Nice !  I love it !

BTW...i sent those gain matched transistors for your PNP Muff today ...so watch the mail ! :)

Hey Rylan, nice box. I really liked it. Wow I'm looking at these great swirls and when I look at mine, I just think "bad bad bad...". I don't know if I should show my new one :icon_redface:. Oh, by the way, if you have a box and remove the circuit from inside to paint it, be sure to remember where you put everything. I desoldered the led of my Golden Dragon, and forgot where I put the led and bezel :icon_eek: :icon_redface:. Well, livin' and learnin' :icon_mrgreen:.

OK, here is my new painting. It's a enclosure for a Dr. Boogey. I think I'm getting the point, but need to work harder to make a great swirl.

Also, my first one after a few layers of clear coat:

This is great!  Every single one of these looks amazing in its own way.  This must be the kind of thing that can't be messed up.  Like Bob Ross said, there are no mistakes, just happy accidents.

Really though, small smudges and twists end up looking like swirling vortices, and drips and blobs become planets amid a sea of cosmic dust and light (if I may wax poetic for a moment). :)

Great stuff, guys.

Andy, that looks delicious!

I went a different route with this one....satin !

this reminds me now of some vintage amp with a cabinet made with exotic wood

Marcos, the new one reminds me of one of those old swirly bowling balls. it also makes me think of the slime from Ghostbusters II. me like.

OK, I got this finished yesterday.

Like I said before, since that one color of paint was old, it kinda lumped a bit on me here and there, so I didn't bother with wetsanding and stuff (besides, it's for my dad, and he wouldn't really care if it had paint at all lol). So, let's just call it "slightly textured."

I did 2 heavy coats of clear and hit it with some Meguiar's polish. It's a Sparkle Boost (used a J201--a lot cleaner than the one I built years ago, which I believe was a NTE457, cause I couldn't find a 458 locally--anyhow, I liked it, I plan on rebuilding mine now).

Again, thanks to Andy for both the paint idea, and of course his never-ending fuzz/circuit contributions.

Good times.

that's a nice looking pedal you got there.

Thanks, I appreciate that. I wish I'd had a nicer enclosure laying around, but that's what he got. It matches his strat (it's a transparent black, kind of a flamed top, I think). He's just using it in church, so I wasn't worried about it being thrown around, etc. lol.

Oh, that reminds me--if you are using a plastic enclosure--be careful about the light bulb. I was using a 40w desk lamp, and it kinda warped the bottom of the box (just a bit). It was fine once I screwed it down, but still... heads up.

Nice job...that looks awesome !

And hey, its housing a Sparkle Boost, so I automatically HAVE to like it, right ?  :D

Here is my first attempt (after a lot of experimentation):

I actually painted this pedal about 10 times (for practice), then ran out of paint, so I just used the leftover paint that had pooled on the cardboard.

This is the back (I know it doesn't match):

Here's another failed experiment (had to clean it off before clear-coat because I missed a few spots on the sides):

And one more:

The method is fun, easy, and not too messy.  Thanks Andy!

Great job, Jay!

Thank you so much. This swirl thing is addictive.

Thanks! Yeah, I figured you'd dig the double-nod... your paint, your circuit...  :)

I redid my SB today. I cracked it open, and I was wrong, it did have a NTE458 in it. I must have swapped it in there, cause the legs were all twisted to make the pinout work lol. I redid the whole thing on vero, and still used the 458; I also kept the switchable diode clippers on the output..

Then I a/b'd that with the black one (J201), and, tonally, not too different, but there's much more gain on hand with the 458 it seems.

And, Andy, if you haven't messed around with cascading this circuit, you should. Kinda like a Sparkle Duper 2 in 1 (of course, that would be off limits, but you know what I mean). I was getting some cool tones out of them.

I'll shutup. Here's a pic. Not as nice as the black one, but I dig it.

Here's a close up. I'm still not getting my consistency right, and when they dry, they're lumpy. Wet, they're like glass...  :-[ I'm not sweating it. This is going right back on my board anyhow.

OK, I'm done. Thanks again to Dragonfly for sharing (the paint and the circuit--the SB has been on my board for about 2 years!). Also, to put your mind at rest, I'm not selling these, I just got the bug to redo mine since it was messy, and I just did one for my dad. I gave you full props on my myspace page (in the pics)   :) www.myspace.com/jayp5150
