Bazz Fuss Gainpot (Dirt) Addition Question

Hello Forum,
I build the bazz fuss not so long ago and decided that its needed a gain pot to mellow it out a little.
So I added a 20K L pot between the ground and the emitter, but when I turn the the pot and the gain lowers I get a lot of treble loss.
Since I play mostly bass with high mids and treble settings i would like to adjust the gain in this manner without loss of tone.
I understand allready that this is done with a capacitor to the ground instead of just the pot.

But what values could work for this cap, does it have to be a large cap or a small one?
And are there any other good mods for the bazz fuss not included in the deluxe version?

anything from 10 to 47 uf is good
most use 22uf
just run the emitted to pin 3, the electro from pin 2 to ground (+ to pin 2 - to ground) and pin 1 to ground
20k lin is to much also, 5k or 10k would work

Thanks that gives me some idea of how it should work
yeah the 20k is to large I can turn the effect of with it but it gives enough range and I dont have anything else laying around

and can I just solder the electro between pin 1 and 2 instead of the jumper thats now in place as a savety and have a wire run from pin 1 to ground

also what value resistor would work to make this a clean boost? (just curius)

ambulancevoice

yeah, you can do that, works exactly the same really

????
just remove the diode and it become sort of a clean boost

also, like me and Marcelo (Mac) always keep saying, add a bias pot (inplace of the collector resistor, 10k) to dial in the sweet spot

Really great ideas! I've been working on a modified version of the hemmo design for a few weeks so far, here's what I have so far:

By lifting the diode on the first stage, it drives the 2nd stage in a different way. Standard pot/cap values for the gain control, and I added a small cap across the diode in the second stage to smooth things out a bit. It would be interesting to change both collector resistors in this circuit to bias pots too.

If you use a +10k log  pot as drive control, it should sound "almost clean" at min, and therefore can be used as a booster with some harmonic content given by the diodes. Volume could be low however.

also, try something like this
i dont have a bread board like all your coool dudes.... with bread boards... :'(
sorta like and electra distortion/bazz fuss blend

the after diode cap is needed to stop the diode from shorting the collector
im not sure what values can be used, but yeah

I was thinking of adding another kind of dirt control by making a voltage divider between the collector and the diode with on one end the stock diode and on the other a different diode like for instance a LED or meaby even 2 green LED's in series to get a mild overdrive or instead of LED's a resistor to make it clean. That way you should be able to control the voltage that goes to the diode and that way adjust the clipping rate, right?
(I think of a resistor because when I put a jumper in instead of a diode I did not get a booster(well kind of but way to gaty to be usefull))

P.S. Beavis I really dig your audio research site you have some cool idea's

A pot in series with the diode may work.

yes mam!!! uhhh... sir!!
and yeah, put a 25k pot before the led and see how that works
