Hearthrob Tremolo transistor question

Having trouble getting 2n5088's in the uk can I sub bc109c's for this?

I think they will work fine.
I think someone used BC109s in a Hearthrob a while back.

great, I'll give it a shot...when I have enough bc109c    I only have three at hand, I tried subbing a 2n2222a for the missing one ( q3)
it kind of worked, but after a minute or so all sound faded away 
battery is still @ 9.3v
