I ransacked the kids' broken radio and RF cars for parts today and netted tons of nice trimpots and film caps.  Are the value of the trimmers read like on  capacitors, ie 223 = 0.022uf?
Also, the nice purty green caps all have letters and numbers.  What would, say, 2E473K mean?  Am I correct in guessing 0.047uf?

.047uf,  K is the tolerance IIRC. Green caps have been good to me.
  472 would be .0047uf.
Sometimes the relevant [value always seems relevant] numbers are right in with 'other' numbers, such as voltage rating...but size tells 'some' of the story...
  the trimmers:
  104: 100k
  103: 10k
  223; 22k
  102: 1k
Of course the wafer is the resisistive element, and being connected to pins 1 and 3, can be tested/measured with the DMM, used pots...try to not bend 'em up when getting them out [sometimes I do '2 rounds' ... only 1/2 lifting them out the first round] They're hard to test but harder to replace, I 'slow test' them as best I can looking for dead spots in the R sweep.
