I am building a Rebote 2.5 and accidently ordered at PT2396. I have a PT2399 coming now to finish the Rebote.

I was wondering if there are any cool projects floating around that use the PT2396. I searched around the forum and didn't turn anything up. There was mention of the PT-80, but that also uses the PT2399.

I figure since Small Bear stocks the PT2396 there must be something out there that uses it.

This is a link to Princeton's data sheet for the 2396 - it shows echo and surround sound aps.  I'm not sure who hosts this link - I hope it is acceptable for me to post it here.

Hope this is helpful.

The surround sound application is interesting, I've been thinking about making something like that for stereo guitar, an extrememly short, hi fi delay that give a wide stereo image.  I glanced briefly at the app notes, but didn't see how short of a delay it can do.  I wonder if it can do shorter delay than the pt2399?

The datasheet's not very informative, but it does say it's functionally compatible with the M65831P. The datasheet for that part http://www.datasheetarchive.com/pdf/2151641.pdf gives much more info including delay times.

Looks like it's only good for shorter delays and the times can either be set with switches or some sort of logic/uC chip.
You could use it to make something but it doesn't look like you can fit it into an existing design very easily.

You could probably make something like a nice chorus out of it.

I don't think that you could make a chorus, because for chorus you need to be able to continuously vary the delay time and this chip seems to only offer different preset delay times.
You might be able to mess with the clock to vary the delay time but I'm not sure.

You could make a "doubling" effect like some MultiFx boxes have by using a very short fixed delay and mixing that with the dry signal.

If u understood the datasheet correctly you have either preset delay times, or custom delay times. As you say, there is an external clock. I assume it is possible to make a chorussing effect by making the clockspeed variable. Then again, I only read the datasheet and I could be completely wrong here ;)

Thanks for the replies, everyone.

I'm not at the point where I can look at datasheets and figure things out for myself. I'm pretty new at this and I'm currently limited to building things from pre-existing layouts. I still find it odd that Small Bear stocks it when there are not any "ready made" applications for it. At least I'm only out a couple of bucks.

Maybe I will drop them an email about it.

Smallbear also stocks stuff for the 'synth-guys'. Could very well be the case that the IC you bought is usefull in a synth module design.

Anyways, I'd store the IC somewhere, chances are you'll be able to use it later on.
