Evening all,

Can some one give me a substitute for a BC556B tranny please?  I need one for (of all things) an interface for a dive computer http://vyper.bunny.hu/eng/Roli/parts/cvmif.pdf.  Although like most three legged objects I get my hands on, I'll plug it into a rangemaster clone and see how it sounds :)

I've not had much luck with google, and although with a stompbox I'd not be too fussy about tranny selection, in this case I don't want to deviate.

thanks,
Jim
Sticking a tube into a tube screamer to get good sound is about like rubbing yourself all over the weight stacks at the gym to get stronger - R.G.

try to google without the b at the end

it's a medium gain pnp like 2n3806

Typo? 2n3906

The BC556 higher voltage than many small transistors (VCBO=80V, VCEO 65V).  The 2n3906 is more normal (VCBO=40V, VCEO=40V).  The BC556 is useful in power amplifiers which have higher voltage rails.

According to the water analogy of electricity, transistor leakage is caused by holes.

According to the NTE cross reference, a NTE159 will work.

I have had "mixed results" with NTE cross references.

Have you checked BC558B and BC559B?

its just a general purpous PNP, you can use pretty much anything in there..the Suuntoo watches operate on a single 3volt lithiumbattery, so even the voltagerating is not important.. ...I built one of thoose too for my "Stinger".  ;D

Thanks for the replies guys.

Johan,  Did you use the 556B's as specified, or substitutes?

I would try a BC560B ,It shares the same Datasheet as the BC556b and has allmost the exact same specs accept for Voltage ....
