Hi there,

I have a late 80s crybaby (rev D) with the 3.5mm jack power connector, and I'm trying to convert it to run on the Boss type (2.1mm) connector so I can use my power supply with it. I've wired it up in a similar way to before, but I don't get any sound in the wah position.
The pedal has been true-bypassed.
Has anyone else attempted to do this sort of thing? Shouldn't be too complicated, should it?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Peter

When you say "wired it up in a similar way before", do you mean connected the existing wires on the 3.5 to the same location on the 2.1mm?  The 3.5mm is a Positive center, 2.1mm is Negative center.

Sorry - that was a bit vague.

I have connected the negative wire (black) to the center pin, the positive (red) to the 'sleeve' and the orange to the break contact (earth?).

er...I'm sure you've checked, but is it possible you have the positive and switch connections reversed? I have done this a few times - it's easily done. In any case, problems like this are easily nailed down with a DMM - see exactly where your 9V is going and if it is reaching the +9V pad of the PCB.

...also, I take it you're using a Boss-style 2.1mm connector or some other PLASTIC connector? Obviously, you can't use a metal 2.1 connector because you'll be grounding out the power supply by effectively sending your +9v to the chassis, which is connected to ground via the jacks. Your replacement 9v input connector must be isolated from the metal chassis if you want to have it wired as centre negative, sleeve positive.
