I have a wallwart which has this information on it:

Pri: 230V AC 50 Hz 15.5W
Sec: 12V DC 500mA 6VA MAX

I wonder if I could use this for a machine on which the following requirements are written:

Power supply:
Input voltage 230v 50Hz 16VA
Output voltage 12v
Output current 500mA max

I know it would probably work fine, but being stupidly ignorant in the realm of power supplies I still need to ask...

Anyone ?

You're ggod to go.
The input and output voltages are the same, and the current capability is the same.

Thanks. I was just a bit bewildered by this 6VA and 16VA stuff.

It doesn't specify AC or DC in the second one there though...

VA means "Volts times Amps" ...also known as Watts.  (P=IV)

Oh, and USE YOUR METER AND FIND OUT IF IT'S AC OR DC!!!  You could very well destroy something if you feed AC into a device that wants DC.  Yes, I am speaking from experience.  :icon_redface:
