Weird, ancient part - need to identify *pic inside*

I've got a very old Rosac Nu Wa/Fuzz that my father gave me years ago.

I've been meaning to sit down with it and draw up a schem. I couldn't remember why I hadn't done this until I cracked it open today.

There is a large, orange, Sprague component that has 6 leads. It's labeled SM001, but I can't really find any info on it.

The leads are numbered, and the connections are as follows:

1 - input jack tip
2 - 9v+
3 - tone pot, lug 2
4 - tone, lug 3
5 - nc
6 - Volume pot, lug 1 (I'm assuming a ground...)

Here's a pic.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm thinking it's some kind of multi-all-in-one cap, or something... I don't know.

Thanks.

It's an encapsulated circuit that's got the entire fuzz circuit sealed up in it.  Mosrite used similar ones in their Fuzzrite pedals.

wow apparently if you search the forum for rosac, we used to have a schematic for Rosac fuzz.

Ah... thanks.

So, then, what's on the board are the wah components?

I couldn't find any info on the trannies, either. I'll check out that link. Thank you.

The board is wah circuit only.  I rehoused a couple of those Rosac fuzzes last year.

Kinda bums me out, cause I just tried to plug it up, and the fuzz is not fully functional (barely audible, gated).

Oh well...

So, this is essentially a Fuzzrite? Or are there substantial differences?

theehman

I think it's fairly close to the Fuzzrite.  Both were designed by the same engineer.

Build a Shin-Ei ... leave off the tone scoop and collector-base caps ...use a crude tone control...you "basically" have the Rosac. Its in the Orpheum / Fuzzrite / Shin-Ei / Walco / Foxey Lady family...

I'll check that out.

I've been messing with this for the last hour, and I might get it working, I think I had a few bad connections...

I know this thread is old, but I wanted to know if anyone has any info on Rosac amps?

I was given one today, a Malibu 44B model.  I opened it up and it's got a PCB with point to point wired components, including one of the weird parts shown below.  As soon as I can get my digital camera away from my daughter, I'll post some pics.

Rock on!

I don't have any info on the amps, but these guys were right, that part was the whole fuzz circuit.

for some reason, it wasn't working in its original state (I think the battery clip was bad, actually lol), but I rehoused it and it's functional.

And totally nasty lol.

When I get a chance, I'm going to put it back like it's supposed to be.

I'd like to see pics of that amp, man.

THAT IS FU**IN GENIUS!

Sir H C

Their amps were not made for very long, the one that I have is made with standard solid state stuff no weird sub units.

Some of the wahs also were done on a different little encapsulated board, those win for sparsed pedal build ever.

Chris,

Do you have any more info about Rosac amps?  I was told you're a collector of all things Rosac...

Thanks,

Rick J

Sir H C

Yes, I have one Rosac catalog that has pictures of the line of amps.  Not sure I scanned that page in or not, but I can when I get home.  I think I have all the Rosac pedals but the tremolo that I have never seen.  One of the brands I am attracted to.
