I don't know about schematics, but I saw some gut-shots once. It appeared to be a walkman-style mechanism with a cassette of another guitarist permanently glued in. The footswitch toggled between play and pause, with the knobs controlling speed and volume. The input jack wasn't connected to anything.

Apparantly, it was the lack of a rewind button that stopped this pedal from being the commercial success it deserved to be.
