I'm doing a mosfet mod on an sd-1 and it calls for mpf 102's and I can't find anything locally.  Is there a compatible transitor I can try? thanks

Hi
MPF102 is a JFET.  Are you after a JFET or a MOSFET?  The MPF102 is similar to the 2N5457 and 2N5458.
If you want a MOSFET, try the 2N7000 or BS170.
cheers

Thanks for the info.  It is for a mosfet mod, but it calls for the jfet.  I'll try those.

You could use a J201, but they don't have as much gain as the others, however I have never noticed that much of a difference.

I believe the J201 has MORE gain than the others mentioned. :icon_wink:

  MPF102 low gain
  2n5457
  J201  high gain
  NTE458  higher gain
Higher gain can sound too 'stiff'...there' goes the adverb, but high gain can sound 'stiff'.
