For the BSIAB 2 would you guys recommend Metal or Carbon Film resistors, should I get a 63V or 100V 1uf Capacitor, and for the J201 should I go with Fairchild or Siliconix?

Metal film = less noise, might not be a bad idea for hi gain, although I don't think the bsiab is particularly noisy.

Won't matter to the sound but a 63V is smaller and will take up less space.

I say it won't matter- go with which ever one has a pinout that matches the layout you want to use.  Which will probably be either.

IMO,metal film resistors give you a duller, spongier tone. I A/B'ed two of my recentley built od's. One with metal film and the other one with carbon film. The carbon film has more punch and clarity(presence) than the metal film, which is dull and spongy.  I think for distortion use, carbon is the way.

BTW,my friend built 2 BSIAB's,also with the aforementioned components, and the results were the same as mines. :)

I don't doubt that they sounded different but did you measure the cap values and the transistor gains as well?
And were the resistors measured to any tolerance?
There are a lot of parts inside a typical box other than resistor that can make a difference in a pedals sound.

One other consideration is that the leads of some components are made from steel not copper.
This can make a difference as well in critical and high gain pedals/ amps.

The metal resistors were 1% and the carbon 5%. As for measuring the cap values,i don't have a DMM that measures capacitance. Those type of DMM are so hard to come by.I'm from the Philippines BTW. :)
