Pot that switches off when turned down?

Anyone ever used any of the pots that can switch the circuit off when turned all the way down? (Not a push/pull) I guess the most common place I've seen them is in small radios where the volume knob kills the power when turned counter-clockwise until it clicks.
I'd like to use this to switch the power in a Ruby amp build on the 10k volume pot. Thanks for the help!!

Too bad you didn't say 100k.  I've got a ton of them.

Would they still work if I put a resistor in parallel?

I've used a 10K pot with a switch. I think I used it for variable bias.

zachomega, are up for selling/trading me one?

aron, do you remember where you got them?

17mm alpha pot with SPST: Mouser 31CC401-F
24mm alpha pot with SPST: Mouser 31XP401-F

Unfortunately, both are backordered atm. :icon_neutral: Though the 24mm one is due in a little earlier.

What about this one...

Is this what I'm looking for? (I think the Ruby volume is linear taper)

Hrm. I assumed you needed an audio taper, but you're right, the Ruby uses a linear taper pot. That should work.

I'll get you more details on what exactly I have if you are interested.  I know I have a bunch of them.  Don't recall what size or taper the pots are...just that they are 100k alpha pots.

Digikey carries a wide range of small bodied CTS pots with switches. Part number CT2216-ND.  http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail?name=CT2216-ND

One caveat with these is they have 1/8" shaft so you need a bushing or oddball knob for them.

Yeah, I got mine from Mouser. It worked very well for what I did. When I turned it "off" it was fixed bias, when I used the pot, it was a variable bias on a JFET.
