Once again, I fight with the Millennium bypass.... RG?

Well, i made a layout of the Millennium bypass circuit based on RG's, but done in diy creator and made for through hole, not surface mount. I wired it up to a blue clipper i made, and after a little transistor wrangling and replacing, finally got it to operate properly. Now, i go to wire up the same thing to a big muff pi i true bypassed, and no matter how anything is oriented, or how many different mosfets i tried, it will not work properly. is there some variance of spec to these things that could make this not work? i don't remember the bs170 or the 2n7000 having a very wide tolerance in production. any thoughts?

btw, i'll link my layout as soon as i get back my thumb drive it is on :)

All versions of the Millenium Bypass are detectors of resistance to ground.

Build your Mill Bypass, test it with a resistor of 1M touched to ground and opened. When that works reliably, hook it to the circuit.

The whole electronics industry is founded on the idea that if you make and use interchangeable parts and put them together the same way each time, it works the same.

Check the usual suspects: Part pin out, part orientation, wiring, soldering issues.

Properly hooked up the Mill 2 especially works first time, every time.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

yeah i kind of figure i'm just doing something wrong, or accidentally frying fets somehow. thanks for the reponse. grrr! :)
