So my friend wants a pedal built that sounds like...

My buddy and I were discussing my recent affliction with building fuzzes and stuff and he wants one now!
He only plays a single P90 SG into a seventies Music Man combo and his Double Muff is way too much for him.
He wants "you know, like Alvin Lee's neck pickup sound" in a pedal through this rig.
What can I build for him that's not too complicated?  I dunno if a booster will do what he wants, as the MM amp has a solid state front end. Maybe sounds like an overdrive, not a fuzz to me.
He tried his friend's old ass Fuzz Face and it was ok, but too quiet.
Hmmmmm.
Any suggestions?

Try a ROG New Clipper.  Breadboard it first and have your friend bring his guitar and play through it.  Read the suggestions on ROG about trying different bias network resistors, I'll bet you can find something your friend likes.  The input of this pedal should load down his P90 and give you a fairly "creamy" sound like what your friend is looking for.

What MM combo?  Go to the EB site and look around.

An EQ might be all you need.  Some of the MM amps use all opamps in the preamp section to driver stage and should have enough gain.  I would try a mult band or parametric  petal EQ.  Even if this is not exactly right it will let you know what frequencies to boost.

Thanks for the responses!
I think I'll try the New Clipper (hell, I'll build one for myself as well).   Looks easy enough to vary the clipping diodes, too--Torchy has a vero layout on his site as well.
I won't be able to check out his setup, as he was just visiting Tucson and is heading back to San Francisco tomorrow.  I have a couple of P90 guitars to play around with.

Any one have more suggestions before I put an order in for parts?

Here's another simple single op-amp distortion. Many variations possible. You might want to order enough resistor and cap values to experiment some.
