I just figured out the "Rams Head' may have been a connotation to...ramming your tube amp Head with all that boost and added harmonics, ie "rams the head with Fuzz/Boost".

I assumed it was Pan,s the Greek god of shepherds and flocks, of mountain wilds, hunting and rustic music

You can see the resemblance in the pic at the wiki article here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pan_(mythology)

DING DING DING!!!!  WE HAVE A WINNAH!!!
That's exactly the reason I don't use that term.  It's obviously not a ram or any kind of 4-legged hoofed mammal.  I always considered it to be some sort of wood sprite or elf-like creature.
I just refer to those Big Muffs as V2 or Face models.

I think it's actually what Mike Matthews looked like back then without all the facial hair!  It was a self-portrait.

hahahahhah FACE MUFF :D:D
hahaha

and, in my opinion there is absolutely no comparison in calling the v2 big muff, that looks to have some sort of creature like a ram or sheep or even pan the god on it , the rams head big muff and blatantly calling a centaur a horseyman or anything besides a centaur. I mean, why change the name if it is what it is already called.
