Hi, all. I humbly beseech the assistance of those with Knowledge :icon_question:

I am looking for a replacement for the MPS8098 transistor used in a couple of Pete Cornish pedals. This is not for commercial purposes.

I am also unwise in the mystical ways of part substitution. Hear my pleas, please.

MPS8098 NPN Si, 60V / 200ma / 350mW, looks like hfe 100-300/1mA

As far as I can tell, some possible candidates would be

BC546 NPN Si  80V / 0,1A    /  0,5W   hfe 110 - 220
BC337 NPN Si  50V /  800mA  /  625mW /  Hfe  160 - 400

Many tanks.

Am I looking is the right direction? Or should I just throw some 5088s in it and see if it blows up? ! :)
It's your sound. Take no prisoners. Follow no brands. Do it your way.

Depends on what the transistor's doing in the circuit. If you need something with similar hfe then 2n30904 would do, or just stick a 5088 in there.

Thanks to you, sir- I'll give it a go. ;D

(It is amplifying- its a booster. I think I'll puts two sockets in to see if the sound gets coloured at all with different transistors.)

2n5088, are low noise high gain, always worked well for me.

I'm still new to this, but I saw MPS8098's in stock on Mouser, can those not be used? I was also at looking at schematic that used a couple of them. Just wondering. Thanks!
