Bartell Shatterbox - I saw this fuzz box that sold for over $600:  http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=230240312721&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=013

The description says it uses a pair of 2N408's, which are Germanium PNP transistors.  Anyone have any information on this thing, and possibly a schematic?  Looks interesting...

Bartell was a guitar manufacturer in Riverside, CA in the 60's.  He built some cool guitars including the hollowbody fretless bass seen at my Black Widow site.
No schematics available that I'm aware of.
BTW, the neck pickup in my bass went bad and I had a local guy repair it.  He used wire he had got from Paul Barth (Bartell) in the 60's.

I'm bidding on this....so maybe you chaps will be nice and won't bid "against" me, and I'll be able to get it for a good price and reverse engineer it....share the circuit with all of you guys.

It has better gut shots than the one you listed....the picture is "almost" good enough to reverse it.

That one looks to be of a later date - the transistors look like they might be silicon (the other Shatterbox had TO-1 packages I think).  Might be interesting in any case to check out the circuit.  Does anyone know the exact years for these and who might have used them live or on recordings?

Well the other bidders flaked so I was the high bidder for well below that price.  When I get it, I will get a schematic done.

Interesting that someone else tried to tell the seller that is was a repackaged Fuzz Face when it obviously has 3 transistors, not 2.  The 2nd question was mine where I told him Bolan used a Hornby-Skewes and the seller just blew me off.
I emailed Paul Barth's son to see if he had any info on these but haven't heard back from him yet.
Looking forward to seeing a schematic for this one!
