You know, the kind in the original fuzz faces and included in the BYOC fuzzes. They metal film and look like this...

I don't think they are vintage, someone is still producing them.

aron

They look similar to Mallory 150 capacitors. I like them in amps.

Dragonfly

I'll drop one in the mail to you tomorrow... ;)

Hey that would be great, thank you so much!

kurtlives

Look like Mallorys to me too but Mallorys are not flat.

What are they and where do you get them?

gutsofgold

I just wanted one to make my fuzz face build a little more 'official'  ;D.

Ed G.

Yeah, so where do you get them from? If they sound like the big Mallory 150's, I want them.

Ed G.

Yeah, I know where to get the Mallorys. These apparently look like Mallorys, but they seem to be much smaller and have an oval shape to them. Looks like they'd fit well in pedal circuits.
Only place I saw them are some foreign web sites.
Dunno if they'd impart the same sonic signature I hear in the Mallory caps in my amp, but they'd look cool as hell.

Now does anyone have the original pcb layout/image???  ;D  It would be cool to try and make it as original as possible.

tehfunk

go to this website and go to their arbiter fuzz face build, it has plenty of pictures and the website is a great resource.

I think I am allowed to link to it, right?

That FF layout isn't like the original though. I'm looking for one that uses lead spacing for axial caps and 1/2 carbon comp resistors.

Sorry to drag this thread up again. but has anyone found a source for these "Mini-Mallory" oval-shaped caps.
These aren't Mallory 150's but they look like 'em. Construction is probably similar, so I wonder if they'd have a similar sound, which I like in my Fender amp.

How many do you need, Ed ?

DougH

I get surplus Spragues that look just like that. They look like a flattened Mallory.

Doug,
Are they smaller than the regular mallory's?

The Spragues I have are smaller than the Mallory's. The other type I have, which are not marked for brand, are larger.

Not really. But they are 400v caps that I use in amp builds.
