would it work to use a dpdt switch to switch btw. the stock diode and another diode or LED? also, does the color of the LED matter, as green is all i currently have.

i think the switch would be a great idea.  Just wire the middle post where you would've wired the diode and then the diodes across the other pairs of posts.  I liked a green led fine but i'm not sure what the differences are.  My favorite was an ugly orange one.
Liked it better than any of the other diodes i tried

Yes.  You could even use a spdt if you wanted, like this:

  (signal in)---(split to both)----(Diode 1:)---|>|-----.  \
                                           \                                    \.----- (spdt or half of a dpdt)----(signal out)
                                              (Diode 2:)---|>|----.

...And you can use whatever diode or LED color you want, but different color diodes typically have different forward voltage threshold, so they will sound slightly different.

Best advice is to try it out on the breadboard first if you have one.

Edit: oops, you beat me to it. :)

This might be a more interesting Bazz variation. I havent built it, but should be cool. Its a combo of some (years ago) Bazz experimentation and one of the AMZ "Warp Controls".  Could add some nice texture.

Just a thought.

I've made one with a 6-position switch and various diode configurations (different color LEDs, Si and Ge and 2 or more in series). Definately audible differences. I'd go with Dragonfly's suggestion or even a combination of switches and pot(s) (blend between selectable diodes). If you like the Bazz you could also provide switching for the input cap and transistor. Here are some more ideas to get you started: http://www.home-wrecker.com/bazz.html

As I giveit more thought, a 10k - 50k pot might work better than the 500k pot for the warp control on this circuit.

dunno why no one has suggested this

also, you can use various types of transistors as clipping diodes too, silicon bjt transistors, germanium bjt transistors, fets
just tie the base to the collector on bjt transistors, the gate and the drain on fets
also, try different input (and output too maybe) caps, different values can change the sound

I threw together a muffer and a Bazz Fuss in series once, with a similar clipping setup on the Bazz Fuss section. It works very well, but also alters the volume considerably from one side of the pot to the other (obviously).

Gives you a wide array of textures. No sound clips, though, sorry. I've long since scavenged that pedal for hard parts, lol.

id probably use two 1n34a diodes in series, since one (according to run off groove) produces a decent fuzz but too low output
