Definitely not a tonepad board, but looks like the exact same layout.  Hope it's being used with permission...

Edit: Says they're "not for profit" so I guess it's not really a ripoff.  I got distracted by the "Newest in a series of...." blah blah.  Just wanted to make sure tonepad wasn't getting ripped off.

PS- sorry this is total lounge fodder

I didn't research to see if it's a ripoff copy, but the NON-PROFIT statement he makes is pure crap... because it's auctioned to the highest bidder, rather than being sold at a fixed price of construction.

Excerpt from ebay posting:
"These are constructed, for now, not for profit, out of the joy of building them ... blah blah blah..."

Looks like an Exact Knockoff of the Rebote 2.

So, what are the legalities of something like this?
What if you made a pedal, gave it away and that person sells it?

I think the word "boutique" is tossed around wayyyy too much, too. the ebay poster did put it in quotes, but still.....

i'm no expert on these matters, but that seems pretty jacked up to me..

Although agreeing with above comments about the "marketing" of the sale, the price is not unreasonable ($70.99) for components, PCB, enclosure and labor. I guess that when one has no more use/interest with some diy FX, one should be able to sell it, right?

gutsofgold

I think that price is perfectly fair, but his marketing 'technique' is not. If he was upfront about it and mentioned that it was Rebote, not his original circuit, then I don't think it would be a problem.

id say that it is boutique because it's about the lowest scale production that you can get. not nice to use tonepad without referencing. if he's selling it 'non-profit' (and hey, it DID sell cheap) and trying to sound like a good guy then he probably should mentions it's a clone of x, and the layout is freely available from tonepad. it would have been a LOT better i think if made his own layout for it. once you get commercial and start charging heaps for something then i think the fact that it's a clone phases me less, but the fact that the layout is ripped off phases me more. - not that this applies here.

looks like a nice build (: got shots are always cool.

According to the Tonepad "legal" page you can make 3 PCBs from their layouts. So as long as the seller only makes 3 of them that's fine.

I looked at the seller's other completed items.  Just one other pedal, so it's not a booming business or anything.

It was a Tube Screamer clone, also using Tonepad's layout.
