I have a couple wah shells and decided to try a McCoy wah wah clone. Lohn Lyons made the PCB for me. These PCB's are awesome, he's a master!!. Nice color, excellent traces (when you feel the traces with your finger, they almost feel like "flat wire"). Got a few extra parts from Dragonfly and I also bought an Icar taper pot and the Whipple inductor. Here's what it look's like:

One word about Michael, the guy who makes the Whipple; straight up honest guy who truly cares about his customers. I can say this first hand. I'll post sound clips later. Really happy with how this one sounds and turned out. You'll notice that there is no buffer and it's not True Bypass. I'll get killed here for saying this but some (a lot) of my favorite guitar solo's used gear that was really low tech. And sounded awesome!!

Nice Build man. I got the parts pack you sent me and I would like to thank ya. Pm me about that wah shell and pot!

Beautiful build Tony !

I'm getting ready to build one just like it for myself ! :)

So you're happy with the sound of the Whipple ?

Very much. Not shrill at all. Plus he's a good guy to do business with. The only thing I really need to do now is loosen the nylon thing by the gear to get the range exactly right. But I find you need to do that on all wah's. Hey Andy and John, many thanks for everything, especially all the "behind the scenes" stuff. I also bought a yellow inductor from Aron, right here, for an older Original Crybaby that I got pretty cheap.

That's hilariously put, but true. Thanks!!

That's a nice Wah.

But may I suggest you paint it turquoise and baby pink?

+1 on that. I even asked him to wind one as a 520 for me, which wasn't any hassle for him at all provided I didn't want it today.

Highly recommended, the inductors compare really well, the price is *really* good, and he's an enthusiastic guy to boot.

Real nice work!

Couple of questions:
Which PCB layout did you use?
What are those odd-looking caps wrapped with nylon?
Do you hear an audible difference with those carbon comps?
Are the trannies BC109?

Thanks!

John Lyons made the layout, it's somewhat based on Fuzz Central but he changed the spacings to accomodate the old larger sized components and changed the look of the traces to be rounded if that makes sense?

The odd looking caps and BC109's are from eBay.

I don't hear a difference with the CC's, just know it really sounds good and look's cool (to me).

Thanks for the kind words!

okay..........I've been to the end of eBay and back - doing every search for capacitor that I can think of - and still can't come up with these caps...got a link ?

tony, nice work.you have a nice angle on your builds. my opinion how to make just a little cooler?

get some acetone and wipe that goofy whipple logo off the inductor.
i am sure the guy makes a great inductor (is he a member here?), but that writing on there looks 'junior high shop class' IMO. sorry dude.

by the way, those capacitors are the ones used in the american build thomas organ crybaby and vox wahs.

Great looking build Tony! Glad I could help you with the board.

I agree with you Joe, Although I'd use naphtha as acetone may possibly tweak any plastic or wax potting :)
If he had some small round stickers made to go on top it would make for a much classier product.
I guess we're just anal huh?

Hey John, the PCB was excellent. Very easy to work with, this will be one that will go to my kids when I'm gone, for sure. And I'm serious, thanks for all the stuff you do that never makes it to the forum, you truly are a craftsman! One of the best...
