Need Help Adjusting a Tonebender Clone

I recently constructed a Tonebender 3-Knob clone based on the first schematic on this page.

http://fuzzcentral.ssguitar.com/3knob.php

Putting the pedal together wasn't too bad, and it is fully functional. But I've been comparing it to 'real' 3-Knob tonebenders, and the fuzz sounds different. It's not a bad fuzz, but it's not exactly what I'm looking for. I've been reading about biasing Tonebenders, and I read a few points that were saying that the Vc at Q3 should be 4.5V. But in that circuit, and in other 3-Knob Tonebender schematics, Q3 goes right to ground, so how can the bias be adjusted? Should I only bias Q1? When biasing Q1, should I adjust the 220K, or the 47K resistor?

Thanks.

I think you want to tweak the resistors on the collector of Q3 or also the collector of Q2 for even more variation. Use 20k trimpots instead of the specified resistors so you can adjust easily to taste.

Well part of my problem is that there is no resistor on the 3 collector.

It SHOULD have an 18k

I would recommend using a 25k - 50k trim pot instead and adjusting it by ear
