Ok guys your mission is to recommend me a good build thats nice and indepth maybe something synth like.

My good lady broke off with me last night not because I did something wrong, far from it.  but because she still loves some other guy who treated her like crap and cheated on her, needless to say I am really rocked.  Need somethign to keep me busy, and good sounding

jefe

Sorry to hear about that bro. Yeah, if I were in your shoes, I'd probably just want to get my mind off things too...

I've been eying the stuff at musicfromouterspace, but it's a little out of my league at this point.

Or you could build a flame thrower and torch that bitch! Sorry.... bad taste...

My suggestion, is for you to build a parallel effect with a "clean" side and a searing high gain on the other.

Do something like the splitter blend. On one side a two Jfet booster capable of being clean or distorted depending on settings. On the other side something wicked like a high gain fuzz with too many knobs.

Both circuits have to have their own tone controls so that beyond just blending, you can control exactly how they are blended. cruchy lows/ clean highs or the other way around.

Oh, plus you have to make the fuzz side switchable so you can engage a different effect but retain the clean sound.

This should keep you busy for the next six months :icon_biggrin: OR if you work all day and all night, maybe a month or two.

or do the through zero flanger - should take you a while just to read the thread

Edit: yeah, these are not synth suggestions, but both would certainly take some time and thought.
My real advice for you would be to build a bunch of easy and fun things.

Renegadrian

The same ol' bad story...A Valvecaster would be too easy an' fast to build? But it'd makes you smile of satisfaction...A good sound for such a simple circuit...

Musicfromouterspace does appeal, but its not something thats a weekend build will be waiting 2 weeks for parts from your side of the atlantic.  I have a fair amount of parts in stock just not some of the fancy IC's they call for

Not thinking of torching her, still pining for her right now.  The moron that got involved now he deserves all that he gets.  I believe we reap what we soe, in time life will deal him somthing bad I hope

Papa_lazerous

just seen another thread on here about the guitar tracker article that penfold wrote. that appeals in a big way.  built most of the easy projects so far need somthing meaty I can chew chunks out of lol

+1   Still loving mine :)  You could then keep youself busy audtioning all the different tubes you can get you mitts on ;)

The only valves I have at home are ECC83's cant get my hands on anything else fast, and they dont sound good in the valvecaster do they?

Renegadrian

no ecc83...you're correct, sir...

Go to topopiccione and build the Bass Balls.  Only takes a day.  Once it's working, drop me a PM and we'll pimp that mother out so it's a lot more synth-like.  Sorry for your loss.

Good call Mark, I am there now..... What a cool site never knew about it.

Only thing I dont have in stock is IC1 1458.  any substitutes available?  as far as I can see its justa dual opamp but I have never heard of one of these before got plenty of TL082 and TL072 though

Mark Hammer

I know the Doctor Q needs a 1458 to sweep properly.  A bifet op-amp simply will not cut it, despite all its many other redeeming features.  Not sure about the BB, but it may also need one as well.  If you have a 358 lying around, try one of those.

I can vouch for the layout.  I've built 3 from it already.  Alternatively, if you need distractions and have a 741 lying around, I think you can use one of those for the rectifier section (IC1b), though that will obviously mean perfing or stripboarding.  The rest of the op-amp stages are perfectly comfortable with a TL071 or 72, 82, etc.

Commiserations fella.

That topopiccione site does look good, I'd missed it before.

The Schaller trem on there looks pretty interesting as well as the Bass Balls, other than that I'd really recommend doing an op-amp Big Muff.

Built 4 so far and they're really very good 8)

Papa_lazerous

Basballs is a definate build, just need to get my hands on a suitable opamp.  I didnt even see any on smallbear I was going to build with what I could then put the right part in when I get it.......

Opamp big muff's arent to my taste I made one with 2N5088's as my very first build.  I shudder to look at the guts of it all on vero board now that I make pcb's lol  It sounds amazing I do plan to revisit it as I have a ton of ideas on that build to make it better

Er, I think you will find that the opamp muff is different to the version you are talking about :)

Sorry to hear you're grieving. I sometimes look at love lost and think it wasn't a loss at all because of all that I gained as a result. IE a better woman and a whole lot of casual sex in the interim. Though, you probably don't want to hear that.

I think I got crossed wires.....I know he was talking about the op-amp version, I was just saying that version isnt to my tastes and was saying what version I do have  :icon_confused:

I am thinking there are plenty more fish in the sea and that I will have to not just dangle a rod over the side but get my trawling net out and have some fun looking haha Probably not the best attitude but Meh who cares
