i just built this pedal w/out the wah, just the fuzz circuit (schematic below). originally it had super low distorted output. so i pulled the switches and all external wiring except direct in from input jack to direct out of output jack, still nothing. then i realized i had used pnp transistors instead of npn transistors. well i was able to switch them out hoping this would do the trick. no luck, still very low if no output. obviously there is something that got knocked out. i check the debugging page and these are my results for the transistors, from left to right of the schematic:

Q1: G: 0 goes to ground D: .33v S: .6.7v
Q2: C: 4.50v  E: 3.40v  B: 3.25v  ----this is the one i am concerned about.
Q3: C: 4.78v  E: .43v  B: .99v
Q4: C: 4.78v  E: .43v   B: .99v
Q5: C: 4.92v  E: .35v   B: .92v

also, the battery is getting pretty toasty.

any ideas where i am looking...or not for that matter.

Ah, good. You took the advice and came over here.

Can you also provide the other things asked for in the debugging thread. I promise, none of that info is asked for just for fun. Notably, what is the battery voltage on the board?

You are correct, there is something wrong with Q1. Open the resistor from collector to base. Does collector go to 9V and the emitter to 0V as it should? I'm guessing they may not.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

ok...figured it out, cracked trace, it works.in fact it works great except one thing, well two things: RF and this thing hisses like mad!!! I mean really bad when no signal is being passed. i used 2n3904's npn's. Is there a lower noise transistor that will have the gain but not the noise? I will try and cure or reduce the RF with a cap on the effect input. I have read its good to put a 100uf cap on the power rail to ground to regulate the supply and bring down some of the hiss. I tried that and no luck. Any advice would be great! Thanks.

2n3904's are pretty "low noise"...WAY less noise than the originals Ibanez used.

It sounds like you have your pedal "working", but not "working right".

The rest of the info from the debugging thread would help, as RG mentioned...also the new voltages now that you have the pedal "making noise".
