Supposedly any ring modulator works as a squarer if both the carrier and modulator are the same.

But only if you are working with a sine wave.
(It's pretty easy to see that if you multiply two square waves together, you are going to get either a square wave of the same frequency, or a steady voltage , depending on whether the square waves you multiply are sitting on ground, or equally about ground. Because, a ring modulator simply multiplies the two voltages together at all times.)

do those create distorted square tones or clean?

stephen-any luck get the square out working?

No, I think the 311 is shot and I don't have any more, so I'll have to do an order.

Has anyone seen or used this module?  Analogue Systems made this video for me and the module seems to work.  Of course, he isn't blazing along the fretboard, but still...

INteresting discussion, which I am only hsalf following. Isn't "clean square waves" something of an oxymoron?

The EH would track very much faster than that.
