EH rackmount guitar synth-any builders?

Supposedly any ring modulator works as a squarer if both the carrier and modulator are the same. 

But only if you are working with a sine wave.
(It's pretty easy to see that if you multiply two square waves together, you are going to get either a square wave of the same frequency, or a steady voltage , depending on whether the square waves you multiply are sitting on ground, or equally about ground. Because, a ring modulator simply multiplies the two voltages together at all times.)
