Here are a few of the techniques I've been working on. They're all repeatable, IMO look great, and are different than anything out there. As time goes on I'll probably give some tips on how to do them, but for right now, I'm going to continue to refine the techniques.

Anyway, on to the pictures !!!

And here's a "close up" of the yellow, black, and silver one !

Hey AC,

It's more like, let me build myself a couple of enclosures so that I can stuff them with stuff I am currently working on..... I've been busy with a lot of prototype work and still have some more to do, so it will be a while before I can build myself something..... effects enclosures all around and the ability to build myself anything I please and what do I have to show for it..... zippo..... what is it they call it... sailors disease... a life spent on the water and no time to fish... go figure...

I'll get something done soon I hope and I will PM you when ready..  ;D ;D ;D

those are amazing!  That's it, you've inspired me.  I've gotta get my swirl on.

I think it's interesting that some people (not only at this forum) think of these as just "swirls". Sure, the "swirl" is one part of these, but each has extra steps/things going on that make them what they are. It's kind of like looking at a double neck bass / guitar and saying "that's a nice bass". :) There's a bit more going on. I'm planning in continuing to develop some of these methods and refine them to a point where they're easy for anyone to do with predictable results.

Anyway, thanks for the kind words :)

You squeezed it into a 1590A - you insane fool!  :icon_mrgreen:

Well this... this is just silly... this can't fit in a 1590B... can it? And you're not even using SMD you mad man!

I really like the swirl within a swirl motifs on the black and red one.  It kind of looks like you're pre-swirling a couple drops of paint on a palette and dropping it onto the "conventionally swirled" background.  Or maybe there's an eyedropper or pipet involved... anyway, you're going to have to tolerate such speculation until you spill the beans on your latest techniques :)

Looks like I now have to take another trip to the arts and crafts store.... thanks Andy  :P

Have you tried dropping salt on any of your enclosures by any chance? I have not tried it on enclosures, but I remember being told about it in grade school art class. I think I'll be doing some experimenting tomorrow.

Very nicely done.  I just finished my first enclosure and while not nearly as professional and pretty as these ones, I'm still proud of it.  I look at these now and really try to pay attention to how something like that can be done to hopefully come up w/ new ideas.  You are really progressing the diy in all of us.

D-Fly - have you ever considered blowing glass?   You have a real eye for the artistic side of the process (as opposed to the physics side of things - which, many glass blowers seem to posses w/out the artistic vision).

Seriously, I bet you'd be really really good at it.

It's cool to see the progression/evolution of your work, AC.  I'm gonna speculate on the red/black swirl-in-swirl one: did you just drop a big blob of a solid color on there, and carefully drag the contrasting color into it?  At first I thought it was some sort of second-coat stencil thing, but then I looked closer and couldn't see any lines indicating a second coat.

All very nicely done.  I would feel bad drilling one and putting controls and jacks on.  Let alone stepping on one!  Like having an original Pollack as a doormat or something.   :D

Thanks Chris :)

I've always watched the videos of it and thought it was tremendously interesting. In fact., there was a whole show devoted to it on PBS about a year, year and a half ago...I meant to try and get the tape, but it kinda slipped my mind with all the things that have been going on.

Now I'm curious again :D
