Sounds like you are runing out of clean headroom on the amp. In which case you won't get much level change no matter what.
Once the amp starts distorting (not the pedals distortion) any level difference you make with the pedal will only compress that amp more than make a level difference.
Try out the pedal(s) with a truly clean amp and you'll notice a level change much much more.

A possibility that didn't come to mind, I use 1/3 that wattage amps and never peg them, that would a very loud scenario for what I'm used to.
Easy way to check that is to turn the amp down so volume has lots of headroom, then try the FF, at some point it should make the boosting sound at least half again as loud.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

drewl - well Ive only actually had it for about a week so far. Its my girlfriends dad's which means basically its mine now haha. The power tubes were bad and burned up after the first 30 mins or so of jamming the other night.. Nice burn spots on the glass even.. Girlfriend used to sing through it (????) until her band got a new PA so it hadnt been turned on in a few years.. Probably needs some new preamp tubes I bet to clean it up.. My roommates 66 is the same way though.. Turn it up to 3 it starts to sound like Pete Townshend Live At Leeds..  :icon_twisted: hence my quest for a fuzz pedal to give it that searing lead sound he had.. But then again that was a Univox Superfuzz too..

The roommate (who is also my studio roommate as well hehe) does have a Carvin Quad-X in there I can try.. Its probably the only tube amp we have between us that actually gets clean, or rather has a clean channel.. My 'little' 30w Laney AOR combo wont even cut it hehe. Its tone is either Black Sabbath or crap. Ill take my little solid state Fender Champion out tonight too and see. That things definitely clean. I am starting to think that unlike the Plexi/Superleads, the master volume amps just really werent made to take pedals well.. There was a reason all the 80s metalheads (SLAYER!!) used em after all...

Thanks for all the help so far guys before I forget!! :D
You might wanna hide though, Im ordering a GGG tube screamer kit tonight hah!
