I'm building a Mark II Tonebender and I'd like to find some OC81D's but I wasn't sure how the new production ones compared to the originals.

I don't really know but for less than $4 more you can get matched vintage GE from Small Bear.

yeah i've seen those.  as much as i hate to admit it, sometimes i'm just a slave to the mojo

i havent had personal experience, but i have heard that these new production oc81d's don't have enough gain to get a fuzz going properly.

Yeah same, haven't tried them but have been told by someone who tried some that their gain is way too low, like 30-40hfe range.
