What's the difference between film caps and the little box type?

For a 1uf Film Capacitor Small Bear only has these little gray box-style instead of the Panasonic Brown film caps.
Is there any difference and are they OK to use?

I just used those in a Tube Screamer, and I couldn't tell a difference.

Also, if you put them in first, they act like little board stands to aid in the rest of your soldering lol.

The little box type ARE film caps, just with a plastic box around them.

I find the biggest difference between the little brown Panasonic ones and the box ones are the box ones have a pretty much fixed lead pitch. This means when planning layouts using box caps one must consider the pitch of the leads where as with the little brown Panasonic ones the pitch is so adjustable it's virtually negligible. I'm not sure which I prefer yet; I guess it depends on the circumstances.

The boxed ones are fixed - and they tell you what they're fixed at.

If you use, for instance, AVX-BQ01 series for everything between 1000pF and 1uF, they will all fit a 0.200" hole spacing. It's a great simplifier.

And for us metricised people it's a dead simple 5 mm.
The markings are always readable for us old guys, too.
I haven't used anything else for years.

what is the series of box caps that DO have long leads? i was very dissapointed when i ordered 100 100n caps (yellow boxed) from mouser and they showed up with the tiny leads. i like the ones with long leads that are STILL boxed. any clue on the part that is?

For the AVX BQ series, it would be the ones that come in reel or ammo packs. Scroll down to the bottom half of the 2nd page -- http://www.avx.com/docs/catalogs/bf-bq.pdf -- the suffixes that indicate the ammo or reel packs are: DB, DD, DA & DC, for example: BF014D0104KDD
