i just got a ross phase distortion and i need to replace one of the C500k pots. i searched here 6 pages deep with no luck. i looked at Mouser but, that sit is way over my head. so if you have one or know where i can find one i'd be much obliged. thanks, rylan

i guess i should say that it a 16mm pot with the extra long threaded sleeve and a "D" shaft.

The D shaft is simple (grind down a round shaft) and the taper is not too hard (resistor across the wiper and top of pot, or an audio taper used with a reverse action and wired backwards) but the long threaded bushing is probably th hardest part.
Is the pot broken or?

i haven't opened it up yet but, i'm pretty sure the insides are all busted based on the black bits that feel out of it as i attempted to spin it. also the a shaft pulls out a bit. it looks like this but, is a 16mm body and has a metal shaft, http://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php?topic=66749.0. i'm gonna take it apart in a bit but, i think it's done. rylan

I believe it's actually a 24mm pot but like John said you're going to have to make sure it's long enough and a D shaft. I've had success searching Ebay when needing pots for older pedals.

mine is definitely 16mm. i took it apart and got it back together enough for the distortion to work. it isn't very loud. with both pots maxed it's only a bit above unity. rylan

Man, that is going to be a hard one to find I think. Or at least unless you find a real one from a ross.
That bushing, shaft length, D shaft and 500K 16mm is quite a combo!
How about finding a similar wafer in 500K and putting it in the old pot mechanism?
Alpha pots are out because they aren't replaceable but I would think that anything similar can be made to work.
Are there any markings on the pot as to maker?

it's an alpha. i just pushed the broken plastic disk back on the shaft. i will hold for now. i tested it and, it gets up to around 376k ohms. which is lower than the other C500K's for the phaser but, better than when it was broken. i think that the shaft must have pulled loose when someone tried to remove the knob. i have a standard C500K pot that i was going to use but, like you said it's a bit harder with the Alpha's. i think i can fit a 24mm pot in there so i may be able use one of those long shaft radio shack pots t work? short of that i'll just have to keep my eyes open. i paid less than $50 with shipping and i knew the distortion half of the pedal wasn't working. it's a pretty nice phaser. i'm gonna take some pictures and what not in a day or 2. rylan
