Did I kill my chip? Over-voltage to Schmitt trigger question.

Hi, I was trying to make a Schmitt trigger oscillator (the super simple one with one cap and one resistor), and I believe I put about 9V into the Vcc of my 74LS14, which specifies a maximum supply voltage of 5V.

It doesn't seem to do anything (nothing shows up on the scope), so I am wondering if I fried it due to over-voltage, or perhaps static electricity.  (Don't know if they are MOS devices or not, my datasheet doesn't say.)

If any of you knows which is the more likely cause of death, I'd be glad to know!  Thanks in advance,

max IS max (5.25V in this case)
more is too much (9V)

though it probably would have survived 7V

Thanks!  I'll try the "spare."  Poor chip, you will be missed.   :'(

This time, I'll check the datasheet before experimenting!
