Hi hackers,

I really like the "brownie"/"chicklet" type film caps that GGG ships with their kits, but I can't find them anywhere. The GGG caps are very compact and I've seen values up to 1mf.
Here's a picture:

The almost cubicle ones (marked L5- 105) are the 1mf caps.

The GGG web site says they're Panasonic, but they're not the ECQ-B/ECQ-E(F) polypropylene film caps from Small Bear (bigger and shorter value range) nor the ECQ-P polys from Banzai (same thing). The closest I come are the ECQ-V stacked metal film caps, the photos at the Digi-Key site looks close, but using the 1mf as a reference, the Panasonic data sheet says 7.3 x 8 x 11 mm (BxDxH), and I measure the GGG ones to approx. 6 x 6 x 8 mm.

Any hints appreciated.

The Panasonic ones in the smallbear kit are those. The kit didn't have 105 caps. But i'm sure they are the same.

Just an FYI kinda thing, I found this site helpful for caps.

I recently tore apart one of my flangers (pawn shop special for about $25, its a Johnson flanger).
Its loaded with those caps.

Hello they are Panasonic Stacked Metal Film Capacitors, V-Series.
You can find them here http://www.banzaieffects.com/Stacked-Metal-Film-c-1020.html

Thanks for chippin' in guys!

All the Panasonic ECQ series look more or less identical (apart from size), and the (ECQ)V-series 50 stacked metal film caps are indeed the most compact I've come over on the net (and I've been through the data sheets at the Panasonic and Digi-Key sites), but the ones GGG ueses still seems smaller (as noted in my first post, approx. 6 x 6 x 8 mm for the 1mf cap, compared to the 7.3 x 8 x 11 mm in the V-series data sheet).

Ah, chuck it, size is in the eyes of the beholder, right?

Foxfire: Sure, I've sent them an e-mail through their site, but haven't got a reply yet, so I thought I'd ask here.
ayayay!: Yeah, that's the V-series ones Mich P mentioned, and the ones I've found to be closest to the GGG ones, but they still seem a little bigger.

OK, mystery solved. Mich P and ayayay! were right all along - the 1 mFs are indeed the (ECQ) V-series 50 stacked metal film caps (even though the measurements don't add up in my head). Digi-Key has a great variety, if anybody else's into Panasonic chiclet type caps, I've found that the B-series 50V poly caps are the most compact and economical from the pico fahrad range 'till 0.047mF, and the V-series metal ones are the best choice between 0.068mF and 1mF.
