DS-1 bypass doesn't work after mod

I attempted the Keeley mods on my DS-1, and it seems to work when the pedal is on, but only buzzing when bypass mode is enabled.  Any ideas of what would cause this?
Thanks

I am using the schematic found here to check continuity http://www.premierguitar.com/Magazine/Issue/2008/Feb/Boss_DS_1_Mods.aspx

Everything seems to be connected correctly.

Seriously...to loosely quote RG : "If you have a known working schematic, and yet your circuit isn't working, that's Mother Natures way of telling us that we messed up". It's very rare to get "bad parts", and I can't even begin to count the times that someone here has said "It's all connected correctly, but it doesnt work", only to figure out hours/days/weeks later that they indeed connected something wrong. We've all done it.

Read the "debugging" thread stickied at the top of this forum...it should be of tremendous help.

EDIT: Also - read through the comments at the bottom of the article...it seems that there are a few possible questions/errors contained in the article.

I am guessing it is a ground problem since that's what seems to cause hum.  I found that both sides of R9 have continuity to ground, which seems odd.  This area of the circuit was not part of the mod however.

After reading R.G. maybe its actually hiss.  Could a connection have continuity, but still be poor enough to cause hiss?

I discovered more...as I test, the board is on a table.  If I pick up the output jack the hiss/hum decreases.  If I mute the guitar strings, the hum disappears altogther and th pedal works fine.  Does this indicate a problem or do I just need to mount the board in the enclosure to eliminate this problem?

Fixed - sounds good

And you fixed it by...?

I just took a chance a started to put it back in the enclosure.  There must have been a ground problem causing the noise which was fixed by mouting the input/output jacks.  I am a new "builder" and my only other project was building a Smallbear Tweak-O and I don't remember having this problem before mouting the jacks.  I guess I would be curious to know if this is a common problem to face when bench testing, or if there is something unique about the DS-1 circuit and/or Keeley mods that would create the noise problem.

Now that I have squeezed the board back in the box, the ultra mod doesn't seem to work anymore.  I imagine something in that loop came loose or shorted out while trying to push everything back in.  The cap on the back of D5 seems to really make things tight.  I really like the SEM sound though so I'm happy with it for now until I get more time to take it all apart again.

Thanks- just in case someone else had the same problem! :)

Personally, the first SEM mod I did stayed on SEM, despite the switch. So when the excellent DIY DS-1 project came out here (thanks to 5 thumbs and miqbal) it was built as a stay in SEM.

I agree- I just modded my brand new ds-1 last week (didn't even plug it in- got it out of the box and took it apart), and the SEM is the best.  I wish I tried it out before drilling the hole for the switch.  Oh well.  It was really an example to a neat-freak pedal-loving friend of mine, who wanted the mod done, but thought I was going to jack-leg it.  When I showed it to him, he told me he thought it was going to be all "ghetto", and that I can have his to mod, now.  I should charge him for that comment. :icon_biggrin:
