Hi I'm Beavis and I'm the Indian of the Band....

Ok, actually I'm the knuckle-dragging hack of the forum. But I do want to take a whack at this general circuit idea since us mortals will almost certainly never see or hear the EWE.

So I've been doing some thinking. The general idea is to somehow emulate (in a minimalist fashion) the concept of a chromatic octave that is triggered by an input signal from the guitar.

The threshold will be settable, plus each of the notes in the octave will be tunable.

And I think I can do it all with two chips, a TL072 and a LM3914A.

Will advise once the 3914's arrive.

There is a guy that makes a box that generates a harmony. The harmony is adjustable with a knob, you can tune it. I forget the name of the thing, but I remember that it had a couple hexaons in the art on the box. It worked with PLL. I think he's sold these to Radio Head and other acts. The guy works out of a music store somewhere in the east coast. I'll see if I can find his web site.
