Hello,

I've built Twenty-Two-Sevenths and i like it, but i want more gain/distortion from it?
How can i do that, without a booster?

Thx a lot!

Have you tried the extra gain mod in the thread you posted a link to?
I don't think you can do much else because the circuit is probably giving you all the gain you can get from it.
I built version 1.2 and it's got plenty of gain for me.

Thx slacker...i've built version 1.3 which includes the extra gain mod...i will try to change to version 1.2 and to hear how it sounds...

Do you have a soundclip of yours (especially with the gain maximized)?

slacker

Here's a couple of quick sound clips, the quality's not great because they were recorded using my laptop's mic but they capture the basic sound.

Thx a lot slacker for your kindness!

My 22-7 sounds almost like yours...but you have a better definition of the sound...what amp/guitar was used?
Anyway, I will modify my 1.3 version to your 1.2 version...i think it's better.

gigimarga

I modified my 1.3 version to 1.2 version and it sounds much better for my taste, even i lost some gain. I have a better definition on chords and the sound isn't so muffled. When i will have some time i will change the tonestack to one with flat mid response, maybe.

Thx a lot slacker!

For a flat tone control response I suggest changing the 3.3n cap in the tonestack for 10n.

The clips were done with a strat clone and a Vox Escort 30 amp. The amp is quite bright and doesn't have much bass so that possibly explains why the sound isn't too muddy. Through my Twin there is a lot more bass but the sound still has good definition and doesn't sound muffled.
I've done a "flat" tone mod on mine, it's similar to what Sebastian suggested except that I've put a 22n cap in parallel with the 3n3 cap on a switch. This gives me flat, classic and scoop options.

Yes, using a 3-position DPDT switch you can get three very different but useful tones.  Just note that using a 22n cap in parallel with the 3n3 cap will produce a 3dB hump in the response around 400-500 Hz, not a truly flat response.  A flat-flat response would be obtained by adding a 6n8 cap in parallel to the 3n3, thus totalling about 10n.  Of course the mid-hump sound can be equally valid depending on your tastes, rig, etc.

WGTP

Can't the 33k resistor in the first stage be reduced/eliminated and the cap increased for a gain boost?

Thx both of you, stm and WGTP!
I will try to eliminate the 33k resistor today...
