hey guys, I purchased one of the new version Jekyll & Hyde pedals about a month ago. Really nice sounding pedal actually. The Hyde side is really cool for getting Marshall to Vintage Mesa Rectifier tones with a clean amp. The Jekyll side is another story... I know its a ts 808 clone but it just sounds really weak. No clarity, really bad mid hump, and such. I'm gonna try and go in there and make a few tweaks but, my big question is this.... Is there any way to reverse the cascading order of the two sided??? Right now the Hyde (distortion) side boosts the Jekyll (overdrive) side when both sides are turned on. What i would like to do is wire to where its the other way around.... Jekyll boosting the Hyde side. Do any of you guys know how I could do this??? Thanks

I've only had mine open a couple times a long time ago, but I remember both effects being on the same board and not being true bypass, so I think to separate the two and reroute the signal around (twice) would probably require a lot of trace cutting/jumpers and other craziness.  Maybe it would be easier to coax more gain out of the TS side?

At this point it may be simpler to build one yourself and change the order.
There are schematics and PCBs online.

We've had a lot of comments on the J&H overdrive side. "Sounds really weak. No clarity, really bad mid hump" is not one we have received. In fact, it's so much the other way that I wonder if your unit has a problem. The Jekyll side started out as a tube screamer, but there have been some changes made. Who knows? Could be that what I think is an improvement makes it worse for you.

Have you tried a different unit? If a different J&H sounds very different, you may want to have yours fixed under warranty. Of course, it could well be that the tube screamer sound is just not a sound you like, or the mods to it may not be your cup of tea.

I'm not trying to make excuses - it's just that this comment catches me by surprise.

As to reversing the order, it's not terribly practical to do. Anything is possible if you are willing to live with enough cuts and rerouted wires, of course, but it would take quite a bit of work.

Let me suggest another option. Talk to your dealer and see if he won't let you trade your J&H back in (I'm assuming it's pretty much new and un-scarred at this point) on a Son of Hyde and RT808. These are the same circuits, but re-housed into separate boxes.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

I have a Jekyll & Hyde pedal. Like the Hyde side, love the Jekyll side. Like all Tube Screamers, the Jekyll needs to be fed into a source that is at least slightly overdriven, or on the verge of overdrive. I would think it would sound pretty bad with a transistor amp.

I have to admit that the Hyde feeding into the Jekyll is a combination I don't use much. Too gainy & muddy. Having the effects in the reverse order would be more useful for me, as I could set up a mildly crunchy plexi Marshall sound on the Hyde side, and then stomp on the Jekyll to take it into JCM-800 territory. I am not going to mod the pedal - I currently run the Jekyll into a Zvex Box of Rock, which is perfect for getting 3 great overdrive sounds with 2 pedals. However, it would be a cool option for future versions of the Jekyll & Hyde to be able to switch the ordering of the effects for just this reason. A switch mounted away from feet would be good; something like a slide toggle, that was not easily jostled.

Just my $0.02.

i figured it would be really crazy to rewire evrything on the inside.... :icon_eek: The pedal is really cool and versitile and by all means I intend to keep it. However, perhaps I will peform a few mods over on the jekyll side to accomidate my playing style and likes. Do any of toy guys have any info on these new version pedals??? Such as component value locations and such that are the usual ts mods. If anyone can shine in with some info... BIG TIME THANX!!!!   :icon_biggrin:
