Im trying to take a 12V 800mA power supply that i found lying around the house and change it to 9v so i can use it for a pedal. im not really sure how to do this from ive seen from other power supplies is that i should ad a 9708 Regulator somewhere in the circuit i dont know where it would go or if thats what i need.. anyways here is the schematic from what i can make of it

***the capacitor is acually 220uF not what it says

Be careful: In your schematic the capacitor is reversed: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diode_bridge

Here's an example of a 7809 regulated power supply:

i was looking at that schematic on generalguitargadgets and ill probally end up making that but will the 1N5393 rectifiers work fine or should i get the 1N4001 that they have on that page. and the capacitor is how i showed it as far as i can tell. the marked, negative side hooks up to the negative output.

1N5393's should work fine. But make sure you get your diodes and capacitors facing the right direction. In your picture, either your capacitor or the diodes need to be switched. Using the ggg pdf would probably be your best bet.
