Germanium Mosrite Fuzzrite guts shots

So I got a fuzzrite a while back, cheap, didn't think to look too closely.  But finally did, found it was a germanium one.  Here are some shots:







all three ceramics are .05's.  Transistors are 2N408s.

Pretty cool how they used the switch as a standoff. I assume the little guys going to the blend pot are .002's. Maybe some time you can measure the pot values? Two different schematics have 33K and 500K.

Is there a resistor off the board in that unit?  Looks like its missing a 22K.

I reckon R6 is soldered directly from lug 3 of the fuzz/depth pot to lug 1 of the volume.

Fun, wondered why it sounded much better than my other Mosrite.  I love the Mosrite/Sierra/Rosac trifecta.

All three of those brands were made right here in lovely Bakersfield, designed by Ed Sanner, who I believe is still alive.  He had this old house on the east side of town (in the barrio) that he used as a shop, and it was loaded from floor to ceiling with everything under the sun.  I drove by his shop the other day and it looks like it's still in business, maybe I'll stop in and see if he's still around.

  What are your RCA's measuring gain wise? I've had more luck with this circuit with a higher gain in q1 like others have reported...

Rick, I think Ed now resides in Tehachapi, Ca. He is very religious so you shouldn't say GD or anything like that around him.

Haven't checked them for gain yet.  I just found them the other day.

  I've been messing with some old house numbered RCA's. Same package as the ones in the pics. The spec sheets on the originals state that q1 is usually around 120hfe and q2 around 65hfe. So far the best sound has been a 200hfe in q1 and 80hfe for q2 both with around 100 leakage.
  Sticking lower gains in q1 sort of makes the sound dull. Less gain, less top end. The 22k resistor that goes from the .002 to ground (R6) is sort of annoying. It bleeds a fair amount of the q2 signal to ground. Probably to even out the volume of the two ends of the tone pot. I've seen schems calling for a 33k volume pot but that seems like it would hurt the output...probably go with the 500k.
