Hi all..
i found this very nice backing track and wanted to record a solo over it using my 3 favorite distortions.

setup:
jackson jdr94->Dual rectal (modded Dr boogie)->burning crunch (modded krank DM)->crybaby->korg ax3000g delay+4X12 cab sim-> pc
Dual rectal and burning crunch had a 4kHz LPF to soften the sound a little

Clip 1:

this is my Fx  processor mesa boogie´s marshall emulation.

Clip 2:

Dual rectal

Clip 3:

burning crunch

......

the three sound different, but have a common timbre..maybe is my playing..
I tried to play similar things on each track..note the wah parts..with the dual rectal just screams!!!! and burning crunch is warmer and thicker, note the neck position....

sorry for the big files.. but i´m sure you´ll enjoy them!!!!

Everyone sounds great! I love the Dr. Boogie, but have yet to build one... Which layout did you use?

i used gaussmarkov´s layout with a few mods, like smaller coupling caps, smaller treble cap, and bigger presence cap...

Woot!!!!

Love the 'satch'iness of your playing (though there's tons of other stuff in there too!)

I think I prefer the third one. It has a clarity that I like.

dschwartz

haha yeah, i love satch´s groove and bluesyness..i also like nuno´s playing a lot (if you hear closely, you can detect some licks or style similarities).. the backing track just screams "satch!!" ..like cool n°9..

i pretty happy with this cause i checked that the pedals i built sounds great recorded and is not just "fatherhood condescendence",.. And i´m also happy cause too much DIY affected my guitar skills a lot, and now i know that with a good warm up and a bit of practice i can get back to my good playing days..

Same here. Although I'm eager to hear them since I'm also a Satriani fan.

oh, this was an old thread.. i moved the clips to goear:

texas (ad-lib with house full of bullets backing track (sorry satch!))

IMHO, texas brownie blows the others away, high gain but clean. still working on its mild overdrive tones.

Is that you playing man?!  Nice playing.  Anyway i thiiiink i liked the burning crunch the best (i really like that sound...very slash/zakk wylde), then dual rec, and i didn't much like the brownie.  may i ask what kind of amp your using?

yup that is me. Thanks!
i like the brownie the most because it "feels" better on the fingers( and the fact that i designed it :P), but indeed, the BC has a really nice tone!!

for the recordings i used: pedal-->korg ax3000 for delay--> multicab sim --> soundcard

for practicing i use my lovely 90´s peavey bandit

The brownie blows the others away for clarity, although there are so many variables in the mix. never been much of a fan of totaly saturated distortion tones. Nice design anyway.

I'd love to hear them through a true tube amp...maybe you have a little 20 watter lying around somewhere   ;)  in fact it might
change my opinion of the brownie; i suspected the recordings weren't done through a tube amp.  I reckon the brownie would
benefit from Ye Olde Valves.

well, i´m one of the few "crazy people" that thinks that tubes are overrated..to me, the texas sounds as tubish as any tube amp i´ve played (and even more). i think better recording would maybe change your mind..
i didn´t recorded the the three at the same time..different days, different eq´s..

I still think the brownie is better, if you like van halen, kenny wayne shepperd and that sorta sounds.. of course for metal and fat high gains, the others are better.

I´ll record new demos of the brownie, i have a new version with more gain and compression..

You sell your pedals, right?

yup, like 10 a year, just for fun..

BTW, the TB is a product of trying to get Nuno Bettencourt´s tones from "waiting for the punchline" record..my favorite guitar tones..it is not oriented for metal or shred stuff.

Now, this is impressive.
Your work on the distortion field is amazing, Daniel. I will not say anything about your playing skills ( :icon_eek: )
You have made such a good work in the short time you have to do it. That's admirable. I envy that, you know, to be such a genius to work like this. TheTB is a freaking rock machine.

Oh, and I agree about "Tubes are overrated" :icon_twisted:

not to bring up 'that old argument again' but i have to disagree. I dont know if were talking strictly pedals here but a tube amp gets my vote over a SS amp any day. they just sound better to my ears thats all. Come to think of it can anyone think of any famous guitarist that has strictly used SS amps? Mind you that brownie sounds very very tubey  :icon_cool:

Very well done, man!
Very guitarish distortion your TB!
About your playing, very nice fluidity and sense of rhythm, some people simply don't pay attention to these when shredding...
Pagan and happy!

Maybe I like them because of that ;)
