Excellent sounding demos, Doug!

Thanks for sharing!
Pagan and happy!

Thanks for the comments, Alex. :icon_wink:

I had a little time last night so I figured what the heck.

Liked that clip of the  Chime 'n Grind, sounds really nice.
How much output in watts do the ECC99 give?

Hm, wonder how a second chanel with a EF86 tube would sound?

It puts out about 2 watts.

Thanks for your comments.

Tube that works good for Hifi...ok...but 'hi-fi tube' is a misnomer, not after Doug has his way with it.
AC/DC sounds great on the Dragonfly, but Chime 'n Grind actually gets sorta close to that too.
Hard to believe that amount of distortion is cuased inside the amp and behaves so well, I've always had to resort to transistors etc. for getting to that amount of clipping, and have it still sound even decent.
Clips sound great, I'll take the Chime 'n Grind for it's ability to live it's namesake, and the D-Fly for particularly dirty moments.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

Sounds real nice Doug! The Dragonfly is a ripper.
The chime n grind seems a little edgt in mp3 but it's probably smoother in person.
Maybe a top cut would be a nice addition as you mentioned.

How close is the Dragonfly to the TW based amp at Ax84 schematically?

That clean phaser clip is beautiful.

Thanks John. :icon_wink:

The Dragonfly is basically the same thing as the Chime. The main difference is the tone stack is tweaked like a Trainwreck Rocket schematic I found at the Amp Garage. It's supposedly a "2 Rock clone of a TW Rocket" so where it came from is anyone's guess. It has about 17db less loss in the midrange than a Top Boost tone stack. The Dragonfly has the option for another output tube in parallel for 4W operation, which also gives it more headroom. It also runs 20-30v higher B+ than the Chime. The Chime is just leftover Firefly parts so it runs at a lower voltage and has the dinky 125a output transformer. I was surprised by the bass response though. When I had the Dragon tone stack prototyped in that, the 125a was pretty mushy in the bass. I guess with less gain it sounds better.

Thanks! I'm glad someone heard that. :icon_wink: That phaser was a fun project and super simple with the Tonepad PCB.

I also have a clip of the Chime with some detune chorus that I forgot to upload last night. I'll put that one up as soon as I can.

I just uploaded a clip of the Chime with some detune chorus. I forgot to upload that one the other night.

Thanks John!

I just realized there's some distortion in the middle of that clip. I'm not sure where that came from, hmmm....

WOW! that amp sounds nice!  How loud is it when you crank the distortion?  Loud enough to shake the walls and disturb the neighbors?  That thing looks great!

Phaser demos sound good too!

Thanks!

The amp is 2 watts or less. It sounds reasonably loud in the room with it (not a wall shaker though). I build amps in a garage apartment out in the back yard. My wife says she cannot hear this one in the house. She can hear my 10 watters in the house. So due to that scientific high tech analysis, I would say it is much quieter than the 10W amps.

It would disturb your neighbors in an apartment complex. But I can't imagine an amp that wouldn't disturb people in that situation.
