Hi,
I'm in the middle of writing brand new layout gallery for the new version of DIYLC. It will be hosted on dedicated project site here: diylc.sourceforge.net
The way I imagine it, upload will be more automated than it is now (at the moment I have to grab files from server, determine which ones are screwed up, copy them over with nice url friendly names and then post entry to the db). Workfrow will be something like this:

  • Anyone who wants to upload has to register
  • You choose file(s) to upload
  • Script will parse DIY file(s) and store them in the DB instead of file system (this eliminates file naming issues), also it will pick up stuff like project name, author, category, etc so you don't have to enter them (this assumes that DIY files will contain needed info
  • When downloading, server will wrap up DIY files from the DB into file form, so you get standard download dialog.
  • Since DIYLC is written in Java, I could add (later) an option that would render layout directly from the DB and display it as an image in the browser. That can be useful for guys that don't want to install software just to open DIY files
What do you think? Any ideas?
Cheers

Anything that can make the daily administration of the gallery easier for you is good!

This is a feature that will be most welcome especially when you are using a public computer or your computer at work!

Best regards

And yeah, I won't be involved into administration too much because it will go automatically. Of course, I'd be able to remove duds but lot less work, meaning real time updates.
By the way, anyone wants to admin new entries to the old layout gallery? I guess some folks would love to see new layouts and I don't have time to do it. It's about 1min of work per layout. Anyone?
Cheers
