I spent sometime breadbording yesterday, I wanted to hear the Electra and the Trotsky too...Ended up messing around and throw some and swap some...So the result is a little different from the main circuit and I humbly want to share it with all of you...Here it is...

THE ELECTRADRIAN

One interesting mod regards the electro (that there wasn't in the original schem, strange enough, no ELECTROs in ELECTRA!!!)
(I should quit drinking...)(or I shall begin)

One of the leg of the electro could be wired to one of the outer lugs of an SPST, and the centre lug going to the remaining leg of the cap, so to switch it in and out. like a MORE GAIN! switch.

Thought it was fun to share...

Excellent! Give a man a breadboard and ideas start to flow! I'm gonna built it!

as mentioned in the other thread, this layout wont work unless you make a trace cut between C3 and C2 on the 2nd row from the bottom - otherwise the output cap, electrolytic, and diodes all short out   ;)

Renegadrian

Man, I am such n00b... :icon_redface:
thx for pointing that out...

Care to know how many of my layouts have had errors in them that I overlooked when drawing them ?

TONS !

It happens... dont sweat it ! :)

Updated... :icon_redface:
Hope you'll like it...
Try it, after all it's a quick build...

MMM maybe I wasn't wrong...The cut in the second row isn't necessary, as the electro isn't soldered there but in the sixth row from the bottom, parallel to R1...so it is correct without that cut.  :icon_razz:

Original layout reuploaded...

aaahhh.... i see :)

I hate mounting electros like that...its more "solid" if you use a jumper and solder the cap to adjacent tracks...unless youre using axial electros of course...

Renegadrian

Or you can:
* Move the cap left 1 hole
* Put a jumper
* Cut the track before C2

Nah, I'm too lazy... :icon_lol:

It was finding one of those errors that helped me make the jump from using layouts to reading schematics. ;)

+1
Post the schematic first, much easier to see what's going on.
You need to learn to translate from schematic to layout some time....   :icon_biggrin:

also, if you wanted, you could add a gain pot, just get a 1k, 2k or 5k pot, wired like a fuzz face control
wire the emitter to pin 3, wire the bypass cap to ground from pin 2 (+ to pin 2 - to ground or to pin 1) and wire pin 1 to ground

heres a schem, since Adriano is so lazy :P

John, I learnt how to read some schems and successfully translated to layouts. Yes it is a good thing indeed.
Here I started breadboarding reading the original electra schem and the trotsky too, then tweaking things up.

Alex, what can I say...Nice job!!! hats off and thank you...
The only thing is that you wrote the name of the fx wrong!!!  :icon_lol:

I know it's not the fx that will change the world, it's just a result of a day spent breadboarding starting from already given schems...but  hey I am not the forst nor will be the last, after all Dumble started modifying Fender circuits!!!
The best thing is that was important to learn more...

I just finished a Trotsky and currently finishing off it's enclosure; might have to breadboard up this version while the paint dries over the weekend  :P

Nice work!

...and this build conforms to R.G.'s first rule of DIY - "Not a day goes by without some metal head wanting *more* gain" ....  :icon_cool:

May well build this for a giggle after *finally* boxing up the 4 naked-looking FX boxes I have on my bench.

That's the worst bit for me.  Boards and layouts don't bother me - I can do those during the wee hours of the morning, but drilling makes forr too much noise to do it any time other than the daylight hours.

Electradrian - could you plost some Soundclips please?

YEAH!!!

SO THE CIRCUIT (ELECTRADRIAN) SHOULD BE POSTING SOME CLIPS OF ITSELF...FUNNY...  :icon_lol:

i imagine if you add a 100k lin pot in place of the 10k collector resistor, you could tweak the bias to your liking
much like the bazz fuss

yes I believe it should work, but I'd use a 50k or better a 25k...

hope you don't mind that I just corrected the title of your schem, you just swinged two letters... :icon_wink:

Der Groovemeister

I built the Electradrian (thanks Renegadrian!), but changed some things. I thought it was too trebly. I put 0.1 uF caps in (like the Dragonfly's version): Less trebly and more bottom. I used a BC109C transistor, because that sounded a bit sweeter in my ears. 2 red 3 mm leds as clippers and a 4n7 cap after the diodes to ground (like in the Trotski, but different value and no switch).
Now it sounds absolutely AWESOME!!!  :icon_twisted: F..in' great blues tone! And that from such a simple circuit.

"What do you mean, dynamics? I'm already playing as loud as i can!"

Renegadrian

I updated the layout, and also found out that Lovepedal Woodow is no more than a modified Electra (like mine...)
