Simple Vox Circuits

I built three of these over the weekend just to see how they sounded. First I built the 2 knob version of the Vox Distortion Booster using the layout on Fuzz Central. I couldn't find much about it on here after trying a search so I tried 2 PN2222A transistors which I presume are simply plastic versions of the metal can 2N2222As. It sounded as I expected, a version of the Si FF but it seems to have more sustain than most of the ones I've built before. It is very good but I now have to convince myself that I really need another version of the Si FF!!!
I'd just like to add that the 5K distortion pot lasted less than a minute, there was no gradual reduction it was either on or off and since I don't want a fuzz that doesn't do what it's supposed to I simply removed the wires to the pot from the board and put the 10u cap across the holes. Instant simplicity!
I then built the VOX treble booster and bass booster on the same board with +, - and inputs all connected. My intention was to use a SPDT to switch between them but I ended up trying a 100K pot to create an active tone control instead. This does sound good with full treble boost at one end of the track and full bass boost at the other. It would probably be more useful with a pot on each but I've not decided which way to finish it off yet.
An interesting couple of hours,
