Help! I keep blowing 4049's on my Red Llama!

Hi All,

made a Red Llama on Veroboard from the Madbean drawing posted on Dragonfly. It worked fine, for a while, and then- no OD, just volume.

So I replaced the  4049 chip, thinking I had inadvertently shorted it. A couple of days later, exactly the same!. I'm using a dc 9v supply, not a battery- could this have any effect?

Do you have any sort of current-limiting resistor between +9v and the 4049's power pin?
