Interesting . . . but where's the input?   :icon_biggrin:

What? You wanna plug a guitar into it? Are you crazy or something?  :icon_mrgreen:

its a standalone tube oscillator :)

early synth stuff, except modded for low voltage submini tubes....quite clever...

returntable

Wow, that sounds really awesome!
did you use any effects on the soundclip, or just the pure oscillator?

Had I listened to the sound clip first, I could have saved myself looking like an idiot.   :P

It was processed through my WEM Copicat MKIV (tape echo) just to add a bit of atmosphere.

It's actually two oscillators. The one at the top is low frequency - 10uf cap. The one at the bottom is high frequency - 120pf cap.

It could do with a bit of development. I just breadboarded it for fun really, I'm experimenting with tubes as voltage controlled filters - this circuit originated from the 'resonance' loop. It occured to me that low voltage tubes can self oscillate - I never thought they could. I won't be building one though - my sanity being precious to me!

Hi, Thats sounds amazing for such a simple circuit. You say you have no intention of building one. Go on !! what about a10 stage version ? I would live to hear that.

Sir. I would refer you to this thread: http://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php?topic=70675.0

  Pressure release !
Steam, sludge, then spaceship motors oscillating, my windows media player visualization really liked that clip !
Sitting here vaguely thinking about what is happening inside the valves.

Thats wonderful!

I've draw the schemo and if I ever find some 6111 tubes I'd replace the tone pots with LDR's and use Earthtonestudio's proximity wah osc and rectifier to drive some LED's to control the LDR's and you've got a twin theremin... of sorts! Spiffingly Good show Old Chap!

Now that's an interesting idea Sean - Low voltage tube theremin! Cool. Don't worry about the 6111 tubes - it should work with 12AU7 (maybe AX, AT etc) too - just change the pinouts to suit.

you could also use a twin T circuit to make a filter after the oscillators

Twin T as in sweepable bandpass as in Twin T wah ? As Paul, he will probably say wha not ?

I've got some 12AU7's as well, bought them years ago for a super flash balanced input mic preamp. Though I think I'd want to run them at at least 120VDC.
Also an LFO on the output would be nice as well and might be as simple as another set of triodes oscillating at 1-10 Hz so maybe a 100uf cap at the freq pot then its output sitting on the base, with a 100uf to ground, of a 2n3904 with the emitter to ground and the collector to the output of the audio oscillator. All that is just the LFO from Tim Escobedo's synth stick minus his 40106 oscillator and using the triodes instead.

But I can understand your reluctance to box it up... so many FX and so little time.  ::)

yep, you can use a twin T circuit with an opamp or with a transistor. i think a tube gainstage will probably work too
