AC 187 help???

bought a pair of AC 187 germaniums to try to make a ge bazz fuss (have had all kinds of fun with this circuit, thought i'd try to go all germ on this version). but i cannot get a signal out of the thing at all, there is some background hiss/noise when i crank the amp, but nothing else. do i need to diddle with the colletor resistor, try a bias pot, or am i so dumb i am trying the wrong pinout?
